Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty, Nose Job)

Nose Surgery or Rhinoplasty is used to give your nose a new look and shape. Nowadays both, men and women are using nose surgery almost equally.
Nose surgery can change the way your face appears, but you have to be realistic with your expectations. Nose surgery can correct many things, it can make your nose bigger or smaller. Rhinoplasty can make the nostrils smaller or give the bridge a new shape.
Nose surgery has its limitation though. If you would like to get the exact same nose as a famous actress or actor, your plastic surgeon will most likely not be able to achieve that. Every person has a different nose and there are limitations on how it can be remodeled.
Nose surgery is also used to correct nose injury or birth defects. Rhinoplasty can be used in a patient with breathing problems and can improve it.

Nose surgery is done under general anesthesia and you will have to stay at the hospital for one night. Depending on the desired outcome different surgical techniques are used. You plastic surgeon will explain in detail during your first consultation.

Before your Nose Surgery

During our free email consultation we will ask you to fill in a medical questionnaire. In there please fill in any and all medications that you are taking. This also includes any supplements.

Medications that contain Aspirin or Brufen should not be taken minimum 2 weeks prior nose surgery. They can cause complications as they effect how fast your blood clots.

Please stop smoking minimum 2 weeks before your nose surgery as it can otherwise have an affect on the anesthetic and slow down the healing process.

Please inform your surgeon if you have hypertension (high blood pressure).

After Nose Surgery

There will be some bruising and swelling right after surgery. There maybe a cotton dressing in your nostrils which will make it difficult or impossible to breath through your nose.

However, the dressing will be removed the same day and your surgeon will make you wear a plastic splint. The splint is used to keep your new nose in shape and keep bones in the correct position. You will have to wear it for about 2 weeks.

Recovery is usually without complications. Just keep in mind to protect your nose for the first 3 months or so. Do not rub your nose and do not do any activities that may increase your blood pressure, such as strenuous exercise.

Risks and Complications

There are rarely any complications with nose surgery. One of the main risk is infection. You surgeon will prescribe antibiotics to eliminate that risk.

Scars will not be visible if the procedure was done from inside the nose. If another surgical technique was used, tiny scars will not be visible or fade over time.
